Tourist vocation of residents in Escuinapa, Sinaloa

Abstract:
Tourism offers benefits to communities, generating employment and income, and promoting the care and conservation of natural, historical, and cultural spaces. Tourism vocation encompasses the attitudes of tourism service providers aimed at meeting visitor
expectations, considering both the attention they receive from residents and the attractions, facilities, and infrastructure available for tourism activities. The objective of the study was to identify the tourism vocation of residents of the municipality of Escuinapa, Sinaloa. The study used a quantitative approach and a descriptive scope; data collection was carried out through the administration of 364 surveys among local residents. The results indicate that Escuinapa is a municipality with 122 rural communities with natural, historical, and cultural resources useful for promoting tourism. Regarding the tourist vocation of residents, an average of 50% have a neutral to negative attitude toward tourism; 50.1% perceive that Escuinapa residents have a neutral to negative attitude when it comes to welcoming visitors; and 52% respond neutral to negatively regarding the perception of tourist arrivals. The conclusion is that residents are beginning to be interested in tourism as an economic activity and are partially taking advantage of available resources to promote tourism activities and the possibility of diversifying income by complementing the development of tourism activities.
